Curiosity Over All

MISSION/ VALUES

Statement of Values:

Longview is independent, meaning we do not favor any political party, movement, or ideology. We are fair-minded, committed to engaging respectfully with all viewpoints—popular or not—without resorting to cheap shots or dismissive rhetoric. We are dedicated to intellectual humility, which means we are transparent about what we know and—just as importantly—what we don’t. We believe that opposing perspectives can not only coexist peacefully, but are necessary to converge on the truth. The tension between them isn’t a flaw; it’s a feature—sharpening insight, challenging blind spots, and enriching our understanding of the world. Above all, we prize curiosity as the lifeblood of our work, driving us to question, explore, and look beyond the surface to uncover what others may overlook.

We also value feedback and want our listeners to hold us accountable to these values. Email us at: hello@longview.report

Mission:

Right now Americans do not trust journalists, and often for good reason. Obvious but unstated bias, hyperbole, partisanship, laziness and sensationalism have defined an industry that has lost sight of it’s mission and in doing so, is bleeding its most valuable currency. This isn’t just unfortunate, it threatens the foundations of our society.

Self-governance depends on people’s ability to make informed decisions. But when the information they receive is so skewed and distorted that they can’t trust it, their power to govern is paralyzed. Without trustworthy, reliable information society becomes more tribal, cynical and dysfunctional.

Longview’s mission is to earn back this trust.  The stories we publish all aim to be useful in navigating the world of ideas. Stories that inspire curiosity, open-mindedness and wonder.
